This Growing Hope Collection is very special to me. I have learned that Hope is a process we do minute by minute and then day by day, building constantly on the growing process of development.
Our pressed glass beads are made in the Czechoslovakian Republic the traditional way by pressing hot glass on a mandrel into a heated mold. Most of this work is still done in rural with small family operated factories! Glass finishes are added in the final step, many of the luster coatings are made with heated metals including tiny bits of gold. The many shapes available from these town folks are often reproductions of vintage glass molds made in their area from the 1920's to the 1950's. The Czech glass beads I use are currently being made as well as a few amazingly delightful vintage shapes. The term "table cut" or "window cut" beads refer to a molded bead shape, usually with a matte finish or luster coating applied that has then had slices or facets cut off and polished to reveal the glass underneath. Matte glass is achieved by dipping the bead in an acid etching solution.
I normally am an antique stained glass jewelry artist who brings 125-year old cathedral pieces to a butter soft smoothness, but I encourage you to enjoy this Growing Hope Collection as a very special, meaningful support to the most wonderful organization Celebration for Life. They have found a way in their hearts to include my designs as part of their fundraising for cancer.
